Why Am I Here? What is My Purpose?
Movies, magazines, television programs, and especially, 'self-help' books suggest that people should look within themselves, at their own desires and dreams, but the starting place must be with God and his eternal purposes for your life. Real meaning and significance comes from understanding and fulfilling God’s purposes for putting you on this earth.
God has an incredible plan for your life and wants you to see the big picture of what life is all about, so that you can begin to live the life He created for you to live.
Did you know that:
- We were planned for God’s pleasure, so your first purpose is to offer real worship.
- We were formed for God’s family, so your second purpose is to enjoy real fellowship.
- We were created to become like Christ, so your third purpose is to learn real discipleship.
- We were shaped for serving God, so your fourth purpose is to practice real ministry.
- We were made for a mission, so your fifth purpose is to live out real evangelism.
But who is Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ is God's only Son, who came to earth over 2000 years ago! While here on the earth the Bible, which is God's Holy Word, records that He lived a perfect life and healed the sick, fed the poor, and even raised the dead! He was later crucified (an ancient and torturous form death) through which He gave his life for of us who have sinned and come short of God's requirement for a sinless life.
God accepted, in full, the payment that Jesus Christ had made for each of us, and after 3 days, God raised Jesus from the dead, just as the words of the Bible foretold over 400 years before! If you believe this in your heart, you too can be saved from your sins and receive His salvation! To receive Jesus Christ into your heart involves this: "if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved," (Romans 10:8-10, NIV).
If you have not done so already, if you have not already confessed to God that you have sinned and that you are a sinner, stop what you are doing and let's pray together . . . shall we? Just repeat these words after me and believe these words in your heart:
"Our Heavenly Father, I believe in You and I believe You created me to be in a personal one-on-one relationship with You! But, I have sinned and therefore have broken that relationship with you, and now, no matter how hard I try, I keep on sinning, even when I do not want to sin. I now realize that I cannot get back into a personal relationship with you without accepting Your only begotten Son, Christ Jesus.
Therefore, before You and the angels above, I confess to You that I believe in Your only begotten Son Christ Jesus, I believe in my heart that He bled and died for all of my sins (even those sins I may commit in the future), and I believe that You raised Him from the dead on the third accepting His death as full payment for my sins, that I would be saved! I love You and I am glad to be back in a relationship with You! Now, bless and keep me throughout all my days, and I will give You all of the praise and honor! Amen."
